President Donald Trump on Tuesday forgave a turkey on the eve of Thanksgiving, a decades-long tradition in the country. This year, the lucky one was Corn (corn), who received a “total pardon” from Trump.

However, this does not mean that the forgotten bird, Cob (ear), will be euthanized. The two turkeys will go together to Iowa State University, where they will live the rest of their lives in peace, without the risk of becoming food.
Corn and cob were created by Ron Kardel, president of the National Turkey Federation and a sixth-generation farmer from Walcott, Iowa.

Before the clemency ceremony, the White House introduced the two candidates and created a poll on Twitter, asking fans which turkey deserved the honor. Corn outperformed Cob by almost eight points: 53.7% to 46.3%.

President George HW Bush restored the tradition of forgiving turkeys in 1989, saving a 22-kilogram bird.
But stories of forgiven turkeys go back to the presidency of Abraham Lincoln.
On Thanksgiving, one of the biggest holidays in the United States and Canada, families gather for a roast turkey for dinner.
The festival has its roots in the early years of European colonization in North America, when European newcomers had a tradition of thanking God for the abundance of the harvest and the help received by the Indians.
