In the US presidential election, candidates need a strategy to win from state to state until they reach a minimum of 270 Electoral College votes. Each state has a predefined number of delegate votes depending on the population.
The state vote operates on a so-called “winner takes all” system: the presidential candidate who wins in each state gets the right to all the votes at stake in the Electoral College, even if victory is by a small margin.
Biden’s lead in California is so great that candidates don’t even spend time, energy, and money campaigning there. Trump is so strong in Mississippi that he doesn’t have to worry about winning more votes there, and Biden isn’t even trying to convert voters.
The dispute occurs even in states that can choose one or the other. This year, the biggest are Florida and Pennsylvania.

The president of the United States questioned the integrity of the country’s elections. He said counting the votes after Election Day could be horrible and suggested he could sue his lawyers.
