Trump said citizens should vote by mail first, if this option is allowed in their states. If so, the president says voters can go to the polling station and if the vote has not yet come, they could vote again.

Voting twice on purpose is illegal. Facebook and Twitter, which are under increasing pressure to contain disinformation ahead of the elections, put warnings in the president’s posts on the subject.
“We have posted a public interest notice in two tweets on this issue, for violating our Civic Integrity Policy,” Twitter said.
“Our goal is to prevent people from sharing recommendations about voting twice.”

White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany said Trump’s speech was taken out of context and that he only wanted voters to verify that their first vote was registered. “He does not approve of illegal voting”, he stated.
This was the most recent statement by the Republican candidate against the credibility of voting by mail, to which many voters are expected to turn, due to the fear generated by Covid-19.

Trump had already launched the idea of voting twice in North Carolina on Wednesday. “If there is a record of unsolicited votes, send them in and then go to the polling station. Make sure it has been counted. And if not, vote again,” he said.
The president’s idea led North Carolina election officials to declare that “it is illegal to vote twice in one election.”
“Asking someone to do this is also a violation of North Carolina law,” said Karen Brinson, director of the state’s electoral authority.
With a larger number of correspondence votes than usual, few analysts expect the result to be released even on election night. Trump has repeatedly refused in his speeches to say whether he will accept the results in the event of defeat.
