A fire broke out in the boarding area, on platform 8; Employees began fighting the flames on the bus, but the Fire Department took over shortly after
A bus caught fire in the boarding area of the bus station, in the central region of Belo Horizonte, on Wednesday morning (16). Despite the fire, which occurred on platform 8, there are no reports of injuries and the flames were quickly fought with the help of employees of the company that owns the bus. The fire department was called and took control of the fire, which was extinguished.
Shortly afterwards, military personnel remained at the scene during the subsequent stage, preventing the flames from reigniting. So far, it is not known what were the causes that caused the start of the fire, or if the fire affected the routine of the Belo Horizonte bus station – the report was communicated with the Minas Gerais Development Company (Codemge), responsible for road, but so far there is no return due to delay in the trip due to the accident.
The start of the fight against the flames was supported by an off-road military firefighter at the time the blaze started. He noticed the fire and headed for the bus. Nineteen fire extinguishers were used to control the flames until the Fire Department arrived. The team cooled the bus’s engine and external ventilation with an exhaust fan to remove the smoke.
The driver reported that the bus left Campinas, in São Paulo, and arrived at the Belo Horizonte bus station before 7 am. He noticed the fire on the dead man about ten minutes after he stopped at the terminal to disembark passengers. A video made by an employee shows a moment in which a driver with a bus stopped next to the burning vehicle can bring it closer to avoid damage to his own bus. The fire started around 6:45 a.m., the driver said.
