Amid the restrictions in place due to the covid-19 pandemic, renewed with fears of a second wave of the disease, it has never been more difficult for Brazilians to travel abroad.
In fact, most of the major international destinations still don’t allow foreigners to enter.
The bad news is that there is no prediction of when this will change.
On the contrary, the most recent change is the announcement that Argentina will soon reopen its air and sea borders with neighboring countries.
BBC News Brazil lists below the current rules of the main destinations for Brazilian tourists abroad and to which countries the trip is authorized. Check out.
In the United States, which has the highest number of cases and killed by covid-19, restrictions on international tourists remain in effect.
About a month ago, the Donald Trump administration announced the lifting of the restriction on flights leaving from some countries, including Brazil. But, in practice, foreigners who were in Brazil for 14 days before entering the US are still prohibited from entering the US territory, unless they are citizens of the country, legal permanent residents (people with green card), direct relatives of US citizens and specific categories. Students are not among those exempt from the rules. See who can enter here.
The rule, therefore, does not prevent Brazilians from entering the US Therefore, there were reports of some attempting to enter through Mexico.
“The CDC (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) statement and the DHS (US Department of Homeland Security) publication do not change who can enter the United States under the proclamation presidential, “says the US Embassy in Brazil in a note published in September.
At the same time, “the new measures implemented on September 14, 2020 will include the interruption of the health examination for those arriving from certain countries, including Brazil. The CDC continues to recommend that international travelers be quarantined for 14 days when traveling areas high risk ”, adds the note.
European Union (except United Kingdom)
Brazil is not on the list of countries whose citizens can travel to the European Union. The rule applies to the 27 member countries of the economic bloc, including, therefore, the main tourist destinations for Brazilians in Europe, such as Portugal, Spain, France and Italy.
But there are exceptions: Brazilians who have dual European nationality or who are legal residents in these countries can travel to Europe. Passengers in transit and those traveling for the purpose of study can also enter. The same applies to “health and senior care professionals and health researchers.” Also exempt from the veto are “passengers traveling for compelling family reasons” and “highly qualified workers from third countries, if their work is economically necessary and cannot be postponed or carried out abroad.”
The United Kingdom, which left the European Union and completes its transition process in January next year, making the so-called “Brexit”, allows the entry of Brazilian tourists.
But before arriving in the country, each traveler, even in transit, must individually complete an online form.
Minors under the age of 18 can be included on the responsible parent form, provided they arrive and depart the UK together and stay at the same address in the country.
The form must be completed at least 48 hours prior to arrival in the UK.
The 14-day quarantine for those coming from Brazil is mandatory.
Despite this, according to the Brazilian Consulate in London, “some airlines do not allow Brazilian tourists to board for the UK. We suggest contacting the airline before purchasing the desired ticket.”
The borders of Argentina are closed to foreigners and non-residents. According to this Saturday (10/24) the country’s Tourism Minister, Matiías Lammens, the borders will be reopened to neighboring countries, including Brazil, starting in November.
According to him, entry will only be authorized for the moment by air (through the Ezeiza airport) and by sea (through the port of Buenos Aires), and not by land borders. Quarantine will not be required. It is believed that a coronavirus test will be performed upon the arrival of visitors, or they will be asked to bring a negative test.
The borders of Chile will be closed to foreigners and non-residents only until this Monday (10/26). For the moment, Chileans and foreigners residing in Chile who enter the country must comply with the mandatory 14-day quarantine.
Brazilians and other foreigners cannot enter Japan.
The borders of Australia are closed. The only people who can enter the country are Australians, residents, immediate family members and travelers who have been in New Zealand during the last 14 days.
What countries can Brazilians travel to?
Some countries in the world allow the entry of Brazilian tourists without restrictions.
Among them, for example, are Mexico, Turkey and Serbia.
In the case of Mexico, foreign tourists must complete the “Traveler Risk Factors Identification Questionnaire” form, available on the Mexican government website.
In the case of Turkey, entry is allowed, but the authorities continue to carry out medical examinations at the country’s airports. If there are symptoms, travelers will be tested. And if they test positive, they will receive medical treatment.
Serbia allows tourists to travel to the country without mandatory testing or isolation, with the exception of those arriving from Croatia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Romania.
Other countries accept to accept Brazilian tourists, as long as certain conditions are met, such as presenting the negative test for covid-19. This is the case of Ecuador and Colombia, in South America, or Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ukraine, in Europe.
In Asia, South Korea allows the entry of foreigners, regardless of their nationality, but it is mandatory to undergo a covid-19 test and quarantine for 14 days. However, all visa exemptions for countries exempted from this document, such as Brazil, have been suspended.
In Africa, Egypt has reopened its borders, but requires foreigners who do not live in the country to present a negative PCR test for covid-19 carried out at most 72 hours in advance. Also, health insurance is mandatory. Tourism is limited to the resorts of three coastal provinces.
