Tigres beat Ulsan 2-1 at Al Rayyan Stadium on Thursday (4), in Doha, Qatar, in the first match of the Club World Cup, with a good performance from French striker Gignac. Today’s result accredits the Mexican team as an opponent of Palmeiras in the semifinal of the tournament, which takes place next Sunday (7).

The match was attended by local fans, all with a negative covid-19 test, according to FIFA. In the first four minutes of the game, athletes sometimes complained about the ball, which needed to be replaced.

Ulsan opened the scoring with a set-piece goal from Kim Kee-hee in the 24th minute, but couldn’t keep the lead. Tigres drew in 38 minutes thanks to the experienced Frenchman André-Pierre Gignac, a member of his country’s national team at Euro 2016.

Two minutes into the first half, there was a Kee-Hee penalty in favor of Tigres. Gignac picked up and guaranteed the return of the Mexicans in the first leg of the game.

The second half was dominated by Ulsan, who pushed Tigres hard. In the 13th minute, Yoon Bit-garam scored a beautiful goal, which ended up being disallowed for offside. For the remainder of the match, both teams focused on introductions, but neither ended up in the back of the net.

Palmeiras and Tigres will meet next Sunday (7), at 3 pm (Brasilia time), with a broadcast on Rede Globo. Bayern Munich, another semi-finalist of the tournament, will face the winner of Al Duhail and Al-Ahly on Monday (8).

The winners of these two semi-finals will play the final of the FIFA Club World Cup next Thursday (11), at 3 pm (Brasilia time).
