Three people are still missing after entering the sea on the beaches of the São Paulo coast during the prolonged celebration of Independence. The Maritime Firefighters Group (GBMar) registered 541 rescues and eight deaths for drowning, after thousands of people traveled to the cities of Baixada Santista to enjoy the open time.

Two young men, ages 18 and 21, are wanted by firefighters in Itanhaém. The youngest, from the South Zone of São Paulo, was seen entering the sea with a floating object, similar to polystyrene, on Sunday (6). Witnesses told GBMar that they did not see him drowning, but that the young man has yet to be found.
That same afternoon, the other young man, 21, went to the sea to save a woman who was drowning in Praia da Gaivota and was no longer seen. He came from Parellheiros (SP) and did not know the place. In addition, witnesses claim that the young man had drunk large amounts of alcohol before entering the sea.
In the neighboring city, in Mongagua, a 17-year-old young man, also a resident of São Paulo, disappeared this Monday (7). According to information from firefighters, he was with his girlfriend at sea, in Praia do Centro when, around 2 in the afternoon, with water up to his shoulders, he was in the process of drowning. The bride tried to lead him to the shallows, but failed.
Search operations resumed on Tuesday morning (8) at the places where the victims disappeared.
Eight people drowned while on vacation off the coast of São Paulo
According to the Maritime Fire Brigade (GBMar), 541 occurrences were counted from Saturday (5) to this Monday (7). Military Police teams recorded images of some of the rescues carried out with the help of the Águia helicopter.
The eight deaths were recorded in the cities of Guarujá (3), Mongaguá (3), Bertioga (1) and Ubatuba (1). In Guarujá, the victims were three men, 24, 27 and 60 years old. Among them, a retired sergeant, who saved a 13-year-old girl in Praia da Enseada.
Also according to GBMar, a 22-year-old bather suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest on the beach of Itaguaré, in Bertioga. He was resurrected by firefighters and sent to the city’s Emergency Care Unit (UPA), but ended up dying Sunday night. In Ubatuba, the fatal victim was a 25-year-old youth, who drowned in Praia do Félix.
