In the midst of the quarantine several problems arose. Among them, the impact of Arena Corinthians in the life of the club. In recent times I have seen, heard and read three statements that have caused me some outrage. I need to share with readers of My helm, for the sake of information and clarification to fans.
The first: “Corinthians has no money because of the Arena”
Let’s go there:
The last Corinthian recipes before the Arena were: R $ 290 million (2011), R $ 358.5 million (2012) and R $ 316 million (2013)
With the Arena already underway, the last Corinthian recipes were: R $ 485.5 million (2016), R $ 455 million (2017) and R $ 469.9 million (2018)
These figures above obviously do not include the income linked to the stadium itself, which goes directly to the fund. These values only come from income related to football and the club itself (TV, sponsorships, awards, etc.).
That is, Corinthians has never risen as high as now during this short era of the Corinthians Arena.
Note: I am not analyzing if the club used this money correctly or incorrectly, I am only talking about the naked recipe.
The second: “If I had Pacaembu, the Corinthians would be better”
This is stupid nonsense, the kind that makes me shiver.
Let’s go there!
Corinthians was entitled to a unique recipe in the Pacaembu games: the box office. Nothing else.
Parking lot? No. Bars and restaurants? No. cabins? No. Captive chairs? No. stores? No. And I still paid a rental fee …
As well.
Corinthians’ highest box office year in Pacaembu was 2012. In that magical year for the club, the gross box office was R $ 35,834,471.24. Net income at the box office in that year of 2012 was R $ 22,261,287.96.
In other words, in the best year, in the highest income, at the best time, the Corinthians enjoyed only 22 million reais from Pacaembu.
This would pay two months of the cast’s payroll (according to Andrés, the payroll costs R $ 12.3 million / month).
Now, do you think “going back to Pacaembu would be better”, answer these questions:
“What would change in the lives of the Corinthians to receive 22 million more? What is 22 million for those who raise 450 million? Would it be worth returning to a staggered stadium to pay two months of salary? Having two salaries paid or having their own stadium, what can be a money machine if it is managed well?
A person needs to be very misinformed (to say the least) to want to change a modern stadium, with almost ten thousand more seats, with innumerable income possibilities, for an old stadium, with only one income and still paying the rent. .
The third: ‘Corinthians Arena is priceless’
Another meaningless nonsense. See this ‘bakery bill’ below. I use that term because I don’t have any more details, the club never examined the stadium financially as it should. Therefore, I will speak in a macro way, with macro values.
The numbers that I will bring below show that, if the board succeeds in talks with Caixa Econômica and Odebrecht, if the new agreements have figures compatible with the stadium’s revenue, it is possible to pay the Arena monthly and enjoy it (according to today’s terms, with the current rates, the account is not closed). So I emphasize the importance of making good deals.
Let’s go there:
Arena is just under six years old. There were 200 games until the last duel with Ituano. Gross box office so far: R $ 357,706,350.97.
In other words, fans left almost R $ 360 million at the box office with the purchase of tickets in just six years. So on average, Arena in a single season earns R $ 60 million gross at the box office (R $ 40 million net).
Added to this amount, another R $ 20 million of other annual income (cabins, captives, visual advertising, bars, restaurants, shops, parking lots, corporate events, gym, outdoor shows, etc.). Information about this value comes from the club itself.
That is, Arena’s annual net income is R $ 60 million (R $ 5 million per month).
As well.
If the agreements envisaged by the board are implemented, what you will have to pay is the following:
- R $ 2.3 million for maintenance;
- R $ 3.5 million of Caixa’s share (the amount foreseen by the club, which continues in talks with the bank to reduce the current R $ 5.6 million);
In other words, if he reaches this agreement with Caixa and settles the debt with Odebrecht, as Andrés announces that he will do so this year (based on all the CIDs and the works not completed), the club would have R $ 6 million / month of net income pay R $ 5.8 million.
Note: if there is any residual Odebrecht (R $ 160 million mentioned), the quota would have to be very long term, so as not to hinder the payment of the two highest amounts mentioned above.
In summary: It pays, yes, for a club the size of Corinthians that has a crowd like this. Few clubs could do it … Corinthians is one of them. Just do a good job off the field … and let the crowd do the rest.
Important!
Realize I didn’t even get into sports. Corinthians’ gain with the Arena on the field is impressive, the opponents today go to Itaquera thinking that the draw is a good result. There were five titles in the first five years of stadium use, there are only 23 losses in 200 games (practically one setback only every 10 games). I will not enter this merit that is not even necessary …
