People who work in the buildings and in the street trade near where the filmmaker Cadu Barcellos was stabbed early Tuesday morning report an increase in insecurity in the region of Avenida Presidente Vargas, between Rua Uruguaiana and Avenida Passos. The still bloodstained sidewalk in front of the Central Bank building is the latest mark of a scare routine for passersby.
– This is delivered to the cockroaches. Security has gotten a lot worse in recent months. When the Gift Center staff leave, the raiders throw the party, says a shopkeeper.
Cadu was allegedly the victim of a robbery on his return from a samba in Pedra do Sal, the bohemian stronghold of the center. He was reportedly hitchhiking with a friend who was heading to the South Zone and got out of the car at the corner of Passos and Presidente Vargas avenues to drive home, when he was approached and stabbed in the chest.
Tragedy: Friends and groups mourn the death of the filmmaker Cadu Barcellos and highlight the importance of his works
He even ran to the corner of Calle Uruguaiana, where the taxi drivers rescued him and called the police.
– The police arrived very quickly and the ambulance did not take long, but there was no time. He died on the corner – said a taxi driver.
Another merchant who lives near the crime scene says robberies are common in the early hours of Tuesday.
– They (the thieves) already know, they wait for those who leave the samba on Monday to take the bus or the subway. It sure was an assault – he says.
Counterparts: In addition to the slot machines, Castor de Andrade’s heirs competed for an island in Angra, from where Fernando Iggnácio returned before being assassinated.
Civilian firefighter Roger Luís, 29, has been working for five years in a building on the corner where Cadu died, and says thefts have increased every day.
– I arrive around 6 am and I never have surveillance. I see thefts almost daily. With the pandemic, it got worse.
The owner of the kiosk, for his part, reports that he continues to be a constant victim of robberies, due to the lack of security in the region at night.
– Almost every week I suffer a robbery. It’s too much, there are many homeless people, and bandits take advantage and hide among them – he lamented.
The point of sale of drugs increased insecurity
According to merchants who did not want to identify themselves, the feeling of insecurity worsened about three months ago, when a drug sales point began to operate on Rua Leandro Martins, near the crime scene. At the site, which is behind the Centro Pedro Colegio II unit, users huddle on the sidewalks, without any repression. According to workers in the region, some users looking for the location practice robberies in the vicinity.
Wanted, the Military Police have not yet sent a position on the situation.
