A young man was shot in the leg with a rubber bullet while trying to film an approach by the Military Police in a cafeteria. The case occurred at dawn last Sunday (29) in Rosário (MA), a city 70 km from São Luís. The corporation would have been taken to the place after a complaint from the residents of the region for agglomeration and disturbance of public order. However, the agents violently approached the people of the establishment.
The case gained repercussion after a circular video on social networks, showing all the police action. According to the images, one of the agents kicks a table and pushes one of the people on the spot. A young man tries to film the action, but is surprised by a rubber bullet fired by one of the agents.
The young man’s sister, who identified herself only as Elma, used social media to demonstrate. On video, he relates that he went to the police station to report the case.
“What I’m asking is: what right do they have to shoot someone point-blank and then justify that nothing will happen because the bullet is rubber? What right do they have to do that?” victim.
Elma also reported that, upon arriving at the police station, one of those responsible for the surveillance made fun of the incident.
“He answered me at the door and now with irony to know what happened, already with a tone of superiority,” he criticized. “Now, what disgusts me is that people are trained to guarantee security. And how was my brother treated? He has a hole in his leg. Total lack of preparation on the part of some policemen.”

The Human Rights Commission of the OAB-MA also spoke. In a note published on social networks, the entity demanded the necessary measures against the agents from the Public Power. In addition, the agency is committed to investigating and monitoring the case.
“Considering the seriousness of the facts presented in the video, the OAB-Maranhão, an entity with constitutional headquarters, demands that the Public Power take all the necessary measures to investigate the facts and punish those responsible, both in the administrative and criminal fields. “says the note.
Retired cops and apology
According to the Maranhão Public Security Secretariat, the police officers involved in the incident were dismissed. The portfolio guaranteed that all procedures will be adopted to investigate the conduct of PM and that it does not agree with conduct whose “actions do not comply with the professional and ethical principles that guide the activities of the corporation.”
“Prevention and repression measures against actions of this nature, contrary to the foundations of the democratic rule of law, will be strengthened,” the corporation said in a statement.
