This Tuesday (18) the world registered a new record of daily deaths from Covid-19 with 11,099 deaths, according to the follow-up carried out by Johns Hopkins University (USA). The highest mark had been registered on November 4, with 11,000 dead.
Deaths from Covid-19 already total more than 1.3 million records worldwide. The countries with the most deaths are the United States (249,000), Brazil (166,000), India (130,000), Mexico (99,000) and the United Kingdom (52,000), according to the university survey.
The number of new daily deaths, which was stable in October, began to show an upward trend in early November. Before that, the peak had been recorded on August 14, with 10,132 deaths.
Worldwide, there are 56 million cases of the new coronavirus. Last week, the daily record for infections was broken for three consecutive days. There were 644 thousand registrations on Wednesday (11), 646 thousand on Thursday (12) and 648 thousand on Friday (13). Yesterday 609 thousand new registrations were registered.
The countries with the most cases of the disease are the United States (11 million), India (8.9 million), Brazil (5.9 million), France (2.1 million) and Russia (1.9 million).
Due to the new increase in cases in Covid-19, the mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, has announced that he will suspend face-to-face classes in city schools as of Thursday (19).
In less than a month, infections increased fivefold in the city. On October 19, the city had 999 new people infected per day; on Tuesday (17) 5,094 new cases were registered. In the country, 41 of the 50 states registered record levels of cases in November and 26 had an unprecedented spike in hospitalizations.
In October, several European countries restricted activities and decreased the movement of people due to the increase in cases.
The increase also worries Uruguay, a country considered an example of success in the fight against the pandemic. On Tuesday, President Luis Lacalle Pou called on the population to adopt a stance of “responsible freedom” after the country recorded an unprecedented peak of 104 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. Since March, there have only been 4,208 infections from the virus and 68 deaths, the lowest mark on the continent.
