‘Everything can be’, says Bolsonaro about the death of a volunteer
The president said he wanted to “avoid controversy” about the obstacles between Anvisa and the Butantan Institute in terms of suspending the tests after the revelation of the death of a volunteer. The health authorities of the São Paulo government affirm that there is no relationship between death and the vaccine.
However, Bolsonaro said that “there is something strange appearing there” and did not rule out that the death of the volunteer, identified as suicide, could be a side effect of the vaccine.

Anvisa published the resumption of the tests
Anvisa yesterday authorized the resumption of tests with CoronaVac. The agency’s executive president, Antônio Barra Torres, said the decision to suspend the tests was technical and motivated by the “incomplete” and “insufficient” data sent by Butantan on the case. But the São Paulo government denied the relationship between death and the vaccine.
In a note issued yesterday, Anvisa said that the suspension is expected in studies of this type and complied with the planned protocols.
“It is important to clarify that a suspension does not necessarily mean that the product under investigation is not of quality, safety or efficacy. The suspension and resumption of clinical studies are common events in clinical research and all studies aimed at the registration of authorized drugs in the country are previously evaluated by Anvisa in order to preserve the safety of the study volunteers ”, says the text.

CoronaVac is in phase 3 testing, the last to prove its effectiveness. At this stage, the volunteers are divided into two groups: one receives the vaccine and the other, placebo, a substance without effect. Only an international committee knows who took it or not.
Volunteers are monitored by this group because 61 of them need to be infected with the new coronavirus.
