2020 was a year of change for everyone, including the University of Mogi das Cruzes (UMC), which presents a new method for a new teaching and learning format.

According to the institution, the current market presents challenges that go beyond the possession of technical knowledge by professionals and, in the near future, at least ten professions will cease to exist. The great challenge is to follow the evolution and transformation of the professional market with the environment of educational evolution.

The new academic model of the UMC proposes to develop skills and aptitudes, in order to prepare students for the exercise of the professions of the future in a ‘multiprofessional’ way. “In addition to forming critical and reflective citizens, current education must insert students into the new reality of the market, which is teaching them to solve the problems that will arise, providing them with emotional intelligence to live with the most diverse situations and situations. . promoting an inclusive and formative management environment, is what today we call soft skills”, Explains the creator of the model at the UMC, Prof. Dr. Cláudio José Alves de Brito, Academic Dean and Director of Research, Postgraduate and Extension.

The UMC affirms that it will prioritize the critical and complete education of the student, placing them as an agent of transformation of themselves and of society; In addition, the contents will begin to use the development of activities that allow the resolution of problems associated with the training of the future professional, adopting active methodologies adapted to our reality. “We decree the end of isolated disciplines; an old model that no longer serves to train future professionals and does not motivate current students ”, says Professor Cláudio.

According to UMC, with the new teaching model there will be integration between students from different courses; the development of a critical look, considering the cultural and social environments in which the student is inserted; and the adoption of contents that cover diverse areas of current knowledge of ethical, logical and philosophical thought, up to diversity and tolerance.

“Our model was created by looking at what has existed for decades in countless institutions around the world, including Harvard, MIT and Stanford, not to mention European ones. However, these models require a lot of “tropicalization”. Our student is different and lives in a totally different reality, many arrive by train after a hard day’s work. Basic education in Brazil is another, the investment capacity is different, the classical training of our teachers is another. This does not mean that we cannot use the essence of what a world has already given us and adapt here ”, said Professor Cláudio, concluding:“ This young man needs a complete education, not a diploma. We are listening to your wishes for a complete higher level, transforming society and, above all, yourself ”.
