According to the city of Rio, more than 40 statues wear masks in various parts of the city. They are made of TNT and will remain in the sculptures for ten days.

Among the monuments that are part of the action are the busts of Zumbi dos Palmares, in the Center, and in Padre Miguel, in the West Zone; the statues of Bellini, in front of the Maracanã stadium, that of Cartola, in Mangueira and Carlos Drummond de Andrade, on the Copacabana promenade.

The rule, published in the Official Gazette of the municipality of Rio on Saturday (18), establishes a fine for those who violate the rule. Individuals will not be fined, but establishments considered essential can be penalized if they allow people to enter without protection.

The amount established for the fine still depended on a joint resolution that would be issued by the municipal departments of Health, Public Order and Social Assistance and Human Rights.

“(…) Failure to comply with the provisions of this decree subjects the offender to the payment of a fine for not executing, hindering or opposing the execution of sanitary measures aimed at preventing communicable diseases and their dissemination and maintenance of health ( …) “, says an extract from the decree.

The municipality’s text also made the use of masks compulsory in public or private transport that carries passengers. The decree establishes that the article must even be used in public goods. According to the text, public goods are considered: lagoons, rivers, seas, roads, streets and squares.

The metro said that access to the stations will only be possible starting this Thursday with the use of the mask. Anyone not using the accessory will be excluded.
