A solar eclipse can be seen in several countries in South America this Monday (14). This type of eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align in a way that ends up preventing sunlight from reaching our planet. The phenomenon will begin at 11:33 am (Brasilia time) and will end at 3:53 pm.
In Chile the eclipse will be total and the day will turn into night. In Brazil, The eclipse will be partial in parts of the south and southeast. – The day gets dark, but only a little.
“In Rio Grande do Sul, about 60% of the Sun’s disk will be covered by the Moon. In Paraná, approximately 50% and in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, around 40% ”, said the professor of the astronomy department of the IAG, USP, Roberto Costa to BBC News Brazil.

Whoever is in the privileged places to enjoy the phenomenon should take some precautions so that their eyes are not damaged. To view a solar eclipse safely, it is necessary to have special glasses or manual viewers, which have filters that block the harmful rays of the sun. It is important that the instruments are certified and filter more than 99.999% of sunlight.
Telescopes, cell phones, cameras, and binoculars can also be used if they have special filters to observe the sun.
The next full solar eclipses will be in Antarctica (December 2021), Indonesia and Australia (April 2023), the US and Canada (April 2024), southern Europe and Greenland (August 2026) and the greater part of northern Europe. Africa and the Middle East (August 2027).
Heat and rain in most of the country

Weather conditions can make it difficult to observe the phenomenon. Most of the areas in Brazil where the partial solar eclipse will occur will have a lot of clouds.
“The success of an astronomical observation depends on the meteorological conditions. A sky full of clouds, rain, or even clouds that do not cause rain, but that remain in large quantities at the time of the phenomenon, are very disruptive, ”warns Climatempo.
According to Climatempo, in Rio Grande do Sul, where the highest percentage of the eclipsed solar disk occurs, the observation conditions are moderate to good.
