The Secretary of Productivity, Employment and Competitiveness of the Ministry of Economy, Carlos da Costa, said that soccer games could be resumed “soon”, but they will be closed in Brazil. He stated that he has been holding talks with the CBF and that protocols will be adopted to ensure the safety of athletes and all participants.

“That will be soon. The Brazilian people are at home and want to see their soccer games, the championships must be resumed,” he said Monday at a press conference in Palcio do Planalto. “There is no reason to secure the economy and prevent companies, as long as they have no impact on health, from going back to work.”

Costa stressed that the government works to resume economic activity “in a responsible manner.” “We need to start producing again. We need to have football, reopen bars and restaurants, industries. This must be done in a planned way, with protocols and without putting people’s health at risk,” he defended.

CBF REQUEST

Health Minister Nelson Teich also commented on the resumption of soccer in the country. He said the issue is being discussed by the portfolio, at the request of CBF, but he also said that the games will be played in closed sizes, at first.

“There is a request to evaluate the return of CBF’s audienceless games. This is something we are evaluating. Not everything we evaluate is to be defined. It is not defined yet. But there are some initiatives that could somehow bring a a little better routine for people’s daily life, “he emphasized.
