Carnival Monday (15) was not marked by the festivities – postponed by the pandemic – but by the rains, which hit several municipalities in the state since the afternoon.
At km 298 of BR 101, the entrance to the Marcílio de Noronha de Viana neighborhood, one lane, heading south, was completely closed around 8 pm due to flooding. The water level rose rapidly, according to images recorded by Internet users and the Federal Highway Police (PRF). The clues were released about half an hour later.
Late in the afternoon, sections of BR 262 also faced problems. According to the PRF, in four points of the highway, between km 27 and km 29 (near the Jucu bridge), trees fell with partial blocking of the road. The runway has already been cleared, but the corporation is warning drivers to double their attention as it is still raining.
The rain started around 5 in the afternoon and lasted about 30 minutes. Despite the short period, the drainage system of several streets did not withstand the flow of water and the roads quickly flooded, such as Rua Etelvina Vivácqua, in the Nova Brasília neighborhood.
Internet users also registered floods in the Jardim Itapemirim, Agostinho Simonato, Vila Rica, Monte Cristo and Maria Ortiz neighborhoods. At Rua Profesora Ana Graça, in the IBC neighborhood, a tree fell with the force of the wind, uprooting part of the electricity grid and leaving the neighbors without electricity. According to EDP, a team is on its way to the site to repair the affected grid and restore power as soon as possible.
At Montecristo, the metal roof of a terrace was ripped off during the gale. The Civil Defense runs through the city to check the affected points.
