The mayor of Maceió, João Henrique Caldas (PSB) -the JHC-, described as “absurd” the demonstration in favor of President Jair Bolsonaro (without a party) and against governors and STF (Supreme Federal Court), this morning, which caused agglomerations on site and at the entrance for the elderly in one of the main vaccination points against covid-19 in the capital of Alagoas.
The event was organized by six far-right movements in the state and had a rally around 9 am, in the Jaraguá parking lot, Maceió’s historic district. Many of them got out of the cars and Boa was wearing masks.
Images shared by the protesters themselves show that they remained in the place, next to the tent set up to vaccinate the elderly from the age of 75. At the site, “honks” could still be heard before heading to shore, almost two hours after the start of the rally.
“Everyone has the right to express themselves. But it is absurd to break into the parking lot of the Jaraguá vaccination post, crowd and block the entrance of elderly people who would be immunized. We do not agree with this type of attitude. The vaccine saves lives. Only with it we will resume the economy ”, said the mayor.
Also according to JHC, the event was sponsored by a city councilor, but he did not mention which one.
“The most unfortunate thing is that while the city works from Sunday to Sunday to save lives, there was an alderman sponsoring and marking the act that prevented vaccination this Sunday in Jaraguá,” he said.
The act of this Sunday took place in several cities of the country and, in Maceió, it was concluded with protesters going to the door of the 59th Battalion of Motorized Infantry of the Army, in the neighborhood of Farol, where they called for military intervention. Before, they crossed the shore with banners that advocated early treatment against covid-19 and criticized the decrees of social isolation in force in the state.
