People registered the passage of a Chinese rocket on Monday night (23) over the sky of Ceará. The spacecraft was launched by China to the lunar surface with the goal of being the first nation to bring back lunar rocks and soil samples in more than four decades, according to The New York Times.

The passage of the rocket could be seen in several municipalities of Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Piauí and Bahia. In images obtained by G1, it is possible to see, even from afar, the moving spacecraft.

According to the New York Times, the mission is the latest stage of the space program that China hopes to culminate in an international lunar research station and eventually a human colony on the Moon around 2030.

Astronomer Dennis Weaver explains that the bright “cloud” that appeared in the sky “is the expulsion of fiery gases that give the rocket its momentum to leave Earth with a mission to the Moon.”

The confirmation that it is a Chinese plane, according to the astronomer, is possible by crossing information with the route of the rocket.

The matter boomed on social media and some people even questioned whether the phenomenon was a UFO.
