Almost a week after a fire struck Amapá’s main electrical substation, the population still faces difficulties in providing electricity.

Monday (9) was in crowded bank branches. They were closed since last Wednesday (4). With so much demand, it was difficult to get attention. “It is like this, without conditions to withdraw money, release a password, verify. We are not achieving anything, people ”, laments Heloísa Brito, radiologist.

This second is the third day of energy rationing. Residents say the six-hour rotation is not being met. “He arrived at 6 in the afternoon, left at 8 in the afternoon, came back at 4 in the morning and left at 6:30 again,” says Adonildon Oliveira, professor.

The Companhia de Eletricidade do Amapá affirmed that it is correcting the failures. Trading accumulates losses. The water fell back on the taps, but it hasn’t reached all of them yet. “It is very bad that people sleep here, it is very hot, it is very hot. Water is like that here, there is no water ”, says Conceição.

Water distribution centers are receiving generators to improve supply. The electrical substation that caught fire last week after being struck by lightning worked with two transformers, when the norm is to have a third as a reserve ready to go into operation. The equipment even exists, but it has been waiting almost a year for maintenance.

The Companhia de Eletricidade do Amapá, which receives power from the substation and distributes it throughout the state, confirmed the problem in the transformer.

“This transformer has been in discussion with the company that makes this equipment for ten, eleven months due to a warranty issue that we do not know how to specify and therefore was not available at a time when it should be supported. to this situation ”, explains Marcos Pereira, president of the Companhia de Eletricidade do Amapá.

A decision of the Federal Court in Amapá determines that the company hired by the federal government and responsible for the substation, presents until this Tuesday (10) the solution of the problem, under pain of a fine of R $ 15 million.

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, said Monday that it is not technically possible to comply with the court decision. A transformer from a substation in southern Amapá to Macapá is being relocated to normalize power distribution in the state. But the ministry said the equipment weighs around 100 tons and the transport operation is complex.

Other teams should help solve the problem. “Thermoelectric generators, large generators, are arriving in Macapá, and this should happen until Thursday and Friday. And then 100% of the state supply will be guaranteed, “he said.

The minister also affirmed that “all the guarantees” for the municipal elections to be held in the state next Sunday (15) are assured.

The company Linhas de Macapá Transmissora de Energia, responsible for the substation, said that shortly after the fire, it formed a working group with the government and competent agencies, which despite the complexity of the system, managed to partially restore power on Saturday and continue working to resolve the issue.
