The police needed to invade the sands of Pitangueiras beach, in Guarujá, on the south coast of São Paulo, this Thursday (31) to expel bathers who did not respect the blockade imposed by the city at the turn of the year. The measure is one more attempt to stop the spread of the new coronavirus.

More than 4,000 railings, trestles and concrete blocks were installed in the city to prevent access to beaches and boardwalks. THE restriction valid only for the 31st and the 1st and the promise is that it will only be allowed to remain in the arena on Saturday (2).

The action was captured on video. Several vehicles with sirens lit enter the sand and it is possible to see some bathers leaving the place. Others accompany everything on the boardwalk. However, dozens of people remain on the beach enjoying the sunny day and the sea.

According to the City Council, the measure complies with the decree that regulated the decisions made by the mayors during a meeting of the Condesb (Council for the Development of Baixada Santista). The prohibitions include the beaches of Pitangueiras, Enseada and Pernambuco, Tombo and Asturias.

It was also decided that kiosks and street commerce could not function at the turn of the year.

Despite the restrictions, the city expected to receive more than 1 million visitors, so the Civil Guard placed 200 agents in the inspection, using quadricycles, in addition to the Military Police.

Other beaches

The Praia Grande, Mongaguá, Itanhaém and Peruíbe prefectures kept the beaches open and said they had difficulties making the blocks. As a result, bathers occupied the beaches and did not always respect social distance.
