It’s official! After many rumors about a possible “cheap iPhone”, Apple made the iPhone SE official on Wednesday. Keeping the name of the first generation, launched in 2016, the 2020 version is committed to cutting-edge hardware and classic visuals to reduce costs.
Confirming some leaks from the past few weeks, the new iPhone SE is basically an iPhone 8 with improved camera and performance. This is clear in the A13 Bionic processor, the same one that equips the new iPhone 11.
Appearance of iPhone 8
To cut costs, Apple included a 4.7-inch IPS LCD with True Tone technology and a Retina HD panel. According to Apple itself, the iPhone 8 covers will be compatible with the new iPhone SE; that is, if you own an iPhone 8, it is a great opportunity to upgrade.
Also, the look doesn’t bring any features that a 2020 smartphone suggests, as it has extremely large edges and even the old Touch ID built into the Home button.
Cameras
On the back, Apple only brought a 12 MP rear camera, but with the promise of providing image quality equivalent to the main camera on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. According to the manufacturer, the A13 Bionic processor will play a key role in improving images, mainly in portrait mode and low light; The latter combines several photos to form one with more details.
It is also capable of recording in 4K resolution at 60fps with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). In the front camera, there is a 7 MP sensor.
Battery and extras
Regarding the battery, Apple did not specify the capacity of the iPhone SE, but made it clear that it will support a fast charge of up to 18 W, although there is a modest charger of only 5 W in the box. Also, wireless charging will be supported.
As usual, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack, but the headphones available in the box will have a Lightning output.
Pricing and availability
The iPhone SE will be sold in black, white, and red, with pre-order starting April 17. Deliveries are expected to begin on the 24th of the same month.
