The current mayoral and reelection candidate who died on the eve of the elections was elected by 60.8% of the voters and ended up re-elected, this Sunday (15), in Passa Quatro (MG). The Green Party requested to replace the candidate before voting began, but the ballot boxes were already sealed. The Electoral Justice will still evaluate the application.
Antônio Claret Mota Esteves (PV) had 5,638 votes in the city. Betinho Paiva (DEM) was the runner-up, with 35.61% of the votes (3,302). In third place was Dr. Aledson (PSC), who obtained 333 votes (3.59%). The city still had 666 invalid votes and another 244 targets.
Claret had been hospitalized for two weeks after suffering a heart attack and died on Saturday night (14). He was the youngest elected mayor in the history of Passa Quatro, aged 28, in 1986. He was also a councilor, mayor, deputy mayor and mayor on two occasions.
Change request and evaluation
Electoral judge Ronaldo Ribar, of the district and Itanhandu (MG), responsible for Passa Quatro, said that the Green Party made the request for the replacement of Antônio Claret on Saturday night. The request for the caption was that, in this case, the ballot of Henrique Nogueira Gonçalves as candidate for mayor and Marco Torres as vice president would enter into dispute.
However, as the ballot boxes were already sealed, there was no time to replace the name and photo of Antônio Claret. In this way, the candidate appeared at the polls.
The Electoral Justice will continue to evaluate the request for substitution, which is common in all exchange of candidates. The electoral law allows a candidate to be changed after the deadline (20 days before the election) in the event of death. According to the lawyer for the fine, all the process was carried out correctly to allow the replacement.
If the request is accepted, Antônio Claret’s votes go to Henrique Nogueira Gonçalves. If rejected, the votes will be voided.
