Of the covid-19 variants identified in circulation in the Federal District, the P1 strain, from Manaus, is the predominant one. The information, released by the Secretary of Health, Osnei Okumoto, at a press conference at Buriti Palace on Thursday afternoon (25), was based on a study carried out with 44 genetic samples during the first half of March.

According to Okumoto, of the 44 samples, the P1 variant was found in 24; P2, from Rio de Janeiro, on the 14th; B 1.2.8 and B 1.4.3, strains that have been circulating in Brazil since the beginning of the health crisis, were identified in 4 and in one sample, respectively. AB 1.1.7, UK variant, was confirmed in one sample.

The genomes were sequenced by the Central Health Laboratory of the DF (Lacen-DF) in alliance with the University of Brasilia (UnB). The secretary explained that the British strain came from an internal infection. “A person who did not travel and was not in the European region, so it is certain that he received the virus here in Mexico City,” he said.

Assistance to the environment

Also during the press conference, the secretary of the Civil House, Gustavo Rocha, revealed that, on Tuesday (23), the DF sent more oxygen to Águas Lindas de Goiás, in addition to helping Santo Antônio do Descoberto (GO). The municipalities of Goiás had already requested help from the federal capital that same day.

According to Rocha, in Águas Lindas there were 40 patients who needed oxygen. He stressed that the aid will not affect the DF’s oxygen supply. “We have a contract of 500 thousand m³ and we currently use 300,592 m³,” he said.
