RIO – A man was arrested this Saturday morning accused of mistreating his grandmother in Leblon, in the South Zone of Rio. The complaint came from neighbors, based on images from the internal security circuit that, on the night of the 19th, show the 21-year-old student Mateus da Luz, pouring a bottle of water on the head of Maria Stella Vasconcellos da Silva, from 76. He was taken to the 14th PD (Leblon) and will answer for bodily injury, discrimination against the elderly and damages, by the Maria da Penha Law. According to investigations, the author used physical and psychological violence against his grandmother. He hit her on the head with a bottle, kicked her and burned her with cigarettes.
In the images, Mateus also appears breaking the panel, where the buttons for the floors are, inside the elevator, and the scenes of abuse of his grandmother. To the delegate Ricardo Dourado, the administrator of the building, where Mateus and Maria Stella live, he said that this is not the first time that he has caused damage to the property of the condominium, nor is it the first case of aggression against the grandmother captured by the neighbors.
According to the testimony of one of the neighbors of the building, to which O GLOBO had access, María Stella is afraid of staying inside her own house: “The neighbors hear every day that her grandmother is beaten or mistreated by him, that she remains all day in the lobby. , fearing for his physical integrity within the property itself. The lady is an old woman in excellent physical condition, but she presents with constant unnatural injuries in her physical condition and she is always unconvinced saying that she had fallen ”.
Even so, according to the report, Mateus is aggressive, does not work and is supported by his grandmother, who had not denounced her grandson for fear of stronger attacks.
At the police station, Mateus da Luz confirmed that he is supported by Maria Stella and declared that “he lost his head due to the family’s financial situation.” In an excerpt from the testimony, he says that his grandmother “was without financial support for five days and that this fact led to the violence inside the elevator.” Regarding the apparent injuries to the victim’s body, he confesses that they were caused by “strong pushing on the ground and grabbing,” also assuming that he burns his grandmother with lit cigarette butts.
Maria Stella told police that her grandson, since he was a child, has “a difficult and somewhat aggressive behavior”, but that in the last four years his behavior has been “extremely disturbed.” He says that Mateus broke objects in his house and that, for this reason, he was admitted to a psychiatric clinic where he remained for three months. And he also remembers that, two years ago, on medical advice, the medications he was taking were stopped.
On Friday (20) a body examination was carried out, which found traces of injuries on the victim. Mateus da Luz was arrested after monitoring the intelligence sector at the Leblon police station. The justice issued an arrest warrant against the aggressor. According to the investigations, the detainee has a history of similar crimes and has already practiced other crimes under the Statute of the Third Age against his grandmother in 2017 and a personal injury against his own mother in 2019. He also accumulates a series of police tickets, for crimes ranging from injury to prejudice, theft and threats.
