The man identified as the perpetrator of the attacks against his former partner in Ilhéus (BA), in the southern region of the state, who were filmed by residents of a building in the Nelson Costa neighborhood, remains at large. The Civil Police of Bahia continues with the searches, but could not capture him.
According to the investigations, Carlos Samuel Freitas Costa Filho, 33, is the man who appears in a video attacking the young woman with a series of punches to the face and still arguing with the witnesses who registered the crime.
Costa Filho’s defense reported that he had already filed habeas corpus. And that he will not denounce the Police until the Justice judges the request for relaxation of the preventive detention order. The determination of the arrest occurred on Thursday night (15) and since then he has been fleeing from justice.
The lawyer of the fugitive from Justice, Caíque Santana Mota said that Costa Filho maintained his professional routine, traveling to another municipality, as a commercial representative and, therefore, was not located by the police at the address reported during the statement made before the DEAM.
“His situation will be defined after the judicial decision of the request to revoke the arrest warrant. If they do not judge me in favor of him, I think my client will report to the police,” said the lawyer.
Testimony and arrest warrant
The assaults occurred in June, but were made public this week when the video was posted online. The victim did not file a police report. Even so, the DEAM (Specialized Police for Attention to Women), in Ilhéus, registered a factual report to investigate what happened, as it was an unconditional public criminal action, and reported the case to the Public Ministry of Bahia.
The Public Ministry substantiated the request for detention by indicating his recidivism in cases of domestic violence. The 2nd Criminal Court of Ilhéus determined the preventive detention of Carlos Samuel Freitas Costa Filho, at the request of the Public Ministry of Bahia.

Investigation
Police say the woman was still living with the attacker again because he would have apologized and promised that he would not attack her again. However, in September, according to the victim’s report, she was beaten again and decided to end the relationship and move to another city.
According to DEAM, Carlos Samuel Freitas Costa Filho has 11 police records for domestic violence against ex-girlfriends and women in his family. The Civil Police reported that he was arrested in flagrante delicto for assaulting his mother, having been later released by the courts.
The Public Ministry also reported that Carlos Samuel Freitas Costa Filho has already been reported to the Court for crimes of domestic violence, threats and private imprisonment against an ex-girlfriend. He was sentenced to one year and four months in prison, but appealed the court decision in the first instance. However, Justice upheld the crime of private confinement, in a ruling handed down by the Bahia Court of Justice in August. The crimes of domestic violence and threats were prescribed.
Costa Filho’s lawyer declined to comment on the allegations, saying there will be a booth in due course.
