The largest batch with doses of CoronVac vaccine arrives in Brazil

The largest batch of the CoronaVac vaccine, the immunizer developed by the Chinese laboratory SinoVac in partnership with the Butantan Institute, arrived this morning in Campinas (SP). There are 5.5 million doses that arrived at the Viracopos International Airport at 5:30 am.

The load consists of 2.1 million doses ready for application and another 2.1 thousand liters of supplies, corresponding to 3.4 million doses that will be filled at the Butantan factory in São Paulo.

Two other shipments are expected to land in the country next week, on December 28 and 30, for a total of 10.8 million doses to start the State Immunization Plan, scheduled to begin on January 25.

“The immunizer achieved an efficacy rate higher than that recommended by the World Health Organization and, with that, we will soon be able to request registration from Anvisa,” said Secretary of State for Health, Jean Gorinchteyn, who accompanied the arrival of the batch next door. The three previous deliveries were made at the Cumbica airport, in Guarulhos, in Greater São Paulo. The first batch, with 120 thousand doses, arrived in Brazil on November 19; the second, with 600 liters in mass of the input, landed on December 3; while on the 18th the third shipment arrived, with 2 million doses.

“Six months after the initiation of actions with the pharmaceutical company Sinovac, we have already managed to guarantee a stock on national soil,” said Dimas Covas.

Is the vaccine effective?

Yesterday, the two announced to the press that the vaccine against the new coronavirus reached an efficacy rate higher than the minimum recommended by the WHO (World Health Organization), which is 50%, so that its registration can be approved for immunize the population. . However, the exact effectiveness rate was not published at the request of SinoVac.

Regarding the adverse reactions of the vaccine, Covas affirmed that the immunizer registered mild manifestations, the main one being “pain at the injection site”.

“From a security point of view, the data is available. It shows that this [vacina] it is, in Brazil, the safest without a doubt ”, said Covas.
