Yesterday Cedae published new lists with the water supply rotation plan for the next few days. According to the list, 25 neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro and four other municipalities in Baixada Fluminense may be affected this Thursday. On Friday, the number of places where water may be short in the capital reaches 40, and three cities are also at risk of the disruptions.
Yesterday, Cedae announced that 22 districts of the capital and eight of the three cities of Baixada Fluminense would run out of water or have an irregular supply yesterday due to problems at the Lameirão Elevatory, which should only be resolved before Christmas. But regions that were not listed by the company were also affected, which decided to rotate between the areas that will be affected, both in the capital and in the Metropolitan Region.
Retired Dilza Alves da Silva, 66, who lives in the center of São João de Meriti, in Baixada, depends on the help of neighbors to get water.
– I can’t afford to buy water. I am concerned about this situation in the midst of a pandemic, a period in which it is necessary to increase hygienic care. There is no water even to do simple things, like brush your teeth, ”says the housewife.
Yesterday, the CEO of Cedae, Edes Fernandes de Oliveira, pointed out the possibility that whoever feels hurt by the lack of water can request reimbursement of the bill and the expenses with water tanks. Housewife Monique Martiniano da Silva, 34, also a resident of the Meriti Center, did not believe in the possibility of reimbursement.
– The poorest will always be the losers. How are we going to complain about the water bill? We will be forced to pay and the possibility of recovering that money is almost nil. The right thing to do would be for Cedae to make tanker trucks available to those most in need, said Monique, a mother of a 2-year-old baby and a 12-year-old boy.
A neighbor of a town on Rua Ipiranga, in Laranjeiras, in the South Zone, sales manager Camilla Fant said that the supply was irregular and that the little water that arrived was muddy. According to her, about 20 houses and a small building in the region ran out of water between 24 and 28. Since then, the supply has been irregular.
– The pumps don’t even have the strength to draw water. I think the water comes with less volume, it is not entering the town, it is passing directly – says Camilla.
Requested by EXTRA, Cedae reported that “it is organizing a procedure so that, starting next week, customers who live in the areas affected by the service in the Eleveirão do Lameirão, who do not have a consumption meter and who feel harmed , they can enter the administrative process and request the audit of their accounts ”. The note says that consumption meters with consumption meters are charged for reading the water meter, that is, “of what is actually consumed and measured by the equipment.”
