The heat wave hitting central Brazil should last until the second half of this month. The forecast is from the National Meteorological Institute (InMet), consulted by Brazil Agency. Today highs of 33º were registered in Brasilia; 41st in Cuiabá; 40 ° in Campo Grande; 38 ° in Goiânia; 40 in Palmas and 37 in Belo Horizonte.

The high temperatures are due to a dry air mass positioned over the central region of the country, which prevents the arrival of cold fronts and other climatic events that could bring more cloudiness and rain.

The phenomenon has been causing high temperatures not only in the states of the Central-West Region, but also in the Southeast, in some areas of the center-south of Pará, Tocantins, west of Bahia and north and northeast of Paraná.

“The hot air mass works as if it were a block that prevents the system from forming clouds, and there is no rain. The humidity channel that comes from the North cannot enter the Midwest bringing rain, ”explained Heráclio Alves, a meteorologist at Inmet.

In the second half of October, this mass of dry air should lose strength. With this, the cold front from the south will gradually advance, allowing the formation of clouds and the presence of rain in central Brazil.

Alves said it is not yet possible to predict what temperatures will look like in the second half of this month. According to the meteorologist, when the rains begin, there is already a very significant drop in temperature, but this can vary from day to day.

He explained that, once the cold front moves from the south to the north, the temperatures and drought must first calm down in the southeast, in Mato Grosso do Sul and south of Goiás and then expand to Mato Grosso, Federal District, Tocantins and south from to.

The dry air mass must move to the west of the Northeast Region, contributing to the dry interior climate, characteristic of this period.

According to Heráclio Alves, this weekend some places in the Southeast Region should have a “relief” in temperatures. “In the easternmost strip, including the east of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, this weekend there will be a colder air mass moving through Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, but with little chance of rain. The heat decreases from Sunday, but will be a passenger, until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Watch out

The nutritionist Tatiana Russel remembers important care in this period of high heat and low humidity. The first recommendation is to drink a lot of water. Tatiana cautions that, although this is a “smoothie” advice, many people do not follow it in their daily life, but they must be vigilant.

The second care is to avoid heavy foods, with too much frying or too much broth. Appetite tends to decrease in the heat, especially during lunch. Important alternatives are raw salads, cooked vegetables, and protein. In addition to not leaving people heavy, the digestion of these foods is better.

Tatiana emphasizes that care should increase the humidity of the air below 30%. From then on, it is necessary to intensify measures such as increasing water consumption and avoiding activities that may be harmed by heat, such as exercising at times when the sun is strongest, such as in the morning, at the time of day. lunch and at the beginning night.
