The ‘guru’ and the 2 reasons that made Miguel Ramírez say no to Palmeiras – 10/21/2020

Miguel Ángel Ramírez does not have an agent, but he has a professional who advises him and who is essential in the decisions made by the almost 36-year-old coach in his career. And the former player and now sports coach Roberto Olabe, Spanish like Ramírez, was fundamental in the decision not to accept Palmeiras now.

Ramírez’s “guru” plan is European football. Although initially in a smaller club, the stability that Europe can give Spanish is fundamental for the working method it proposes, with absolute integration with the base categories. What is needed is time.

The refusal to Palmeiras at this time also occurred for two reasons:

1- Concern about not being able to have time to build a group of scouts (scouting) and joint work between the base and the professional. The 2020 and 2021 seasons will be modified and there will be no preseason. The fame of Brazilian clubs has weighed for firing coaches in a few months;

2 – Finish work in a club that has the DNA of Olabe and Ramírez. The Independiente Del Valle project was formed by both.

It was Olabe who brought Ramírez to Qatar, where the coach worked for six years, from 2012 to 2018, at the Aspire Academy, a project of the Qatari government for the training of young players. There Ramírez and a team fulfilled the young promises from Monday to Friday and on weekends these athletes return to their clubs to participate in competitions.

Qataris began to create a worldwide network of contacts, also behind talents from other countries. In 2018, Olabe ends up going to Ecuador to conduct negotiations for the Aspire Academy and ends up meeting with leaders of Independiente Del Valle, who wanted to launch an ambitious project for young players that could bear fruit in the medium term.

Olabe invited Ramírez to leave Doha and go to Quito. The two set up the entire project, from the training method to how to identify promises not only in the Ecuadorian market, but also in other Latin American countries. A few months later the coach of the main team, Ismael Rescalvo, left the club and Ramírez was invited to take charge of the professional.

Today Olabe is director of the Royal Society of Spain, and he intends to take his student to Europe in the short term. Anyway, for Ramírez, closing a complete cycle in Del Valle is fundamental because he is simply the father, along with Olabe, of the entire project.
