According to the fire department, from the moment the family heard “fire,” the children’s father asked everyone to leave the department. The nanny took the 6-year-old boy, who was in the room, and left the place. The mother went to “room 1” to pick up the grandmother and the father went to look for the extinguisher in the hall.
Due to the flames, the mother was unable to leave with her grandmother and was trapped in “room 1”. The babysitter managed to go down with the 6-year-old, but neither she nor the father managed to return to pick up the 4-year-old from “room 2”.
Almost half an hour after the fire started, Fire Department crews arrived at the scene to rescue his mother and grandmother. One of the teams was trying to get them out of the building through the building window and another inside the building.
Around 1:30 p.m., the child’s body was buried in the Parque da Paz cemetery, in Alterosas, in the Serra.
INVESTIGATION
On Tuesday (20), a team of Firefighters and another of Inspection of the Civil Police were in the apartment to gather information and indicate what had caused the fire. The Civil Police reported, by note, that the circumstances of the fire are being investigated, initially, by the Department of Homicides and Protection of the Person (DHPP) and the expert report must be completed in 30 days.
RETURN OF RESIDENTS
Neighbors were able to return to the building on Tuesday (20), still with the strong smell of smoke, after cleaning the hallways of the condominium.
“The suite room was the most destroyed. The first information is that the fire started in the suite room, where there were even two coat racks. They lived here in the building for little more than two months, since during a period they just renovated the apartment ”, explained the liquidator Flaubert Fregonassi.
Flaubert lives in the apartment just below the building that caught fire and said it took him a while to notice the fire. “It was the people in the other buildings who said I was having a fire. I started helping my 94-year-old aunt and also the residents of other apartments on my floor, most of them elderly,” said the superintendent, who quickly he cut off the gas to the building to prevent an even greater tragedy.
Porter Albert Coutinho, 54, has worked in the building for 27 years and said he never went through anything like this. “It was the neighbors of the building across the street who saw the smoke coming out and warned me, since the impact of the apartment is in the back. I went up with a fire extinguisher in my hands, other people were already pulling the hose. But the smoke It was already intense, we couldn’t get to the third floor, ”recalled the doorman, who had stayed up all night.
