The minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), Gilmar Mendes, criticized in a social network the delay in the start of vaccination against covid-19 in Brazil, compared to other countries that are already immunizing their populations.
“Delays and obstinacy in the importation of vaccines are already tolerable. Neighboring countries are already initiating immunization. Establishing a vaccination schedule is an urgent measure. Ignorance cannot prevail over science,” the minister published in his account from Twitter.
The Health Ministry said on December 29 that it plans to begin vaccination against covid-19 in Brazil between late January and early February. However, it is necessary for the manufacturers of the immunizers to obtain the registration of the vaccines with Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) for emergencies or regular use.
Yesterday, Anvisa approved a one-off import order for 2 million doses of the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford in association with the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.
