Brasilia – The federal government decided to include beauty salons and hairdressers and sports academies of all kinds in the list of essential activities during the covid-19 pandemic. As a result, these sectors are now safeguarding exercise and operation despite measures of social distance.

On Monday the 11th, upon arriving at the Alvorada Palace, President Jair Bolsonaro had announced the inclusion of beauty salons and gyms in the list of activities considered essential. The decree confirming the government’s decision is published in an additional edition of the Official Federal Gazette circulating this Monday.

With this expansion today, the list, which was defined by Decree 10,282, of March 20, already has 57 activities. In the past 7 years, the President had already listed the civil construction sector and industrial activities as essential, after meeting with businessmen at the Supreme Federal Court (STF).

On Sunday the 10th, Bolsonaro had promised to expand the list of activities considered essential during the pandemic. “Tomorrow I must put some more professions as essential. I will open, since they do not want to open, we will open there,” Bolsonaro told supporters, in front of Alvorada on Sunday.
