The deadline to complete the qualification process for the national driver’s license (CNH) is suspended indefinitely. According to the decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, last Wednesday the 23rd the change applies to both ongoing processes and those that may be opened.
For the National Transit Council (Contran), the measure is necessary because the theoretical and practical tests were disrupted during the new coronavirus pandemic, due to hygiene and social distancing protocols. Therefore, at the moment, there is no limit on the duration of the process to obtain the first CNH.
At the beginning of the pandemic, the deadline for obtaining a driver’s license had already been extended from 12 to 18 months. Before, the deadline to complete all the stages of the process (psychological, medical, theoretical and practical tests) was one year, counted from the date of registration in the Driver Training Center (CFC).
In addition, it should be remembered that the renewal of the license is also suspended indefinitely, in accordance with Resolution No. 789 of Contran, of June 18, 2020. The rule applies to drivers who already have the CNH or the Driving Permit (PPD), and are with the document expired on February 19, 2020.
Process to remove CNH
To obtain a driver’s license, the candidate must first undergo a psychological evaluation and a physical and mental fitness test. Subsequently, you must take the theoretical course, with 45 hours / class, and pass the exam. From there the practical classes begin.
It is worth mentioning that if the student fails one of the exams, they will not be able to take the next step. In addition, if the candidate fails the theoretical or practical test, she will have to wait 15 days to take another test.
