The Crime Office – a gang of hitmen responsible for dozens of homicides in Rio in the last fifteen years – had a plan to kill the bugger Fernando Iggnácio de Miranda, who was murdered this Tuesday in Recreio, Rio’s West Zone. In an investigation against the murderers, the deputy of the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime of Rio de Janeiro (Gaeco) discovered that several members of the group wanted to buy a 50-point machine gun, one of the most destructive weapons in existence, to execute Iggnácio.

The weapon was registered on the Internet by one of the heads of the Crime Office, Leonardo Gouvêa da Silva, el Loco, in April 2018. At the end of the investigations, in June last year, Mad was arrested. Another member of the group that searched for weapons was former Prime Minister João Luiz da Silva, Gago, who is still at large today.

Iggnácio was ambushed when he arrived in Rio by helicopter from Angra dos Reis, on the Costa Verde. For the police, the snipers planned the crime in advance. The Homicide Police (DH) are investigating whether the Crime Bureau is behind the murder.

The deputy suspects that the group was hired by Rogério Andrade in 2018 to kill the discontent, with whom he had disputed since 1997 the criminal inheritance of the phony Castor de Andrade. Iggnácio was married to a daughter of Castor. Rogério is the nephew of the former president of the Independent Youth. Currently, according to MP investigations, Iggnácio still controlled illegal gambling in Bangu, in the West Zone.

Before Iggnacio’s murder, two members of his security team were shot and killed. In January 2018, retired Sergeant Anderson Cláudio da Silva, Andinho, one of the guards’ security guards, was the target of an attack in Bangu, in the West Zone. He managed to escape without being injured.

However, his steps continued to be monitored. Andinho was shot and killed three months later, on April 10. At the time, he was shot after leaving a business meeting and getting into his BMW in Recreio. The crime has the signature of the Prosecutor’s Office: the Police discovered that the ammunition used was the same that the group used to assassinate businessman Marcelo Diotti, on March 14, 2018. The members of the gang are already responsible for this latest crime.

Former Prime Minister Jorge Crispim Silva dos Santos, another man who worked for Iggnácio, was assassinated in June this year at his home in Campo Grande, also in the Western Zone. Police are investigating whether the three murders are related.

Another recent episode in the dispute between Iggnácio and Andrade took place at the end of 2018. It was a shooting attack on the former Castor de Andrade Fortress, a mansion that functioned as a criminal’s office in the 1980s and 1990s. The MP suspects that Iggnácio was at the scene and the snipers were campaigning to kill him.

The three founders of the Crime Bureau are already dead. All were shot to death in just over three years in different situations. The former captain of Prime Minister Adriano da Nóbrega was shot in action in Bope da Bahia in February this year. Former Lieutenant João André Martins – with Adriano, who graduated from the PM Special Operations course – was executed near the house where he lived, on Ilha do Governador. Former Prime Minister Antônio Eugênio Freitas, Batoré, was assassinated in 2019 in a car along with drug trafficker Fernando Gomes de Freiras, Fernandinho Guarabu, by prime ministers in Ilha do Governador.

The group’s heir, Leonardo Gouvêa da Silva, el Loco, was arrested in June. However, there are still fugitive members, such as former Prime Ministers Anderson de Souza Oliveira, Mugão and João Luiz da Silva, Gago. Militiamen who, according to the MP, joined the group are also out of jail, such as Leonardo Luccas Pereira, Leléo and Edmílson Gomes Menezes, Macaquinho. Both control the paramilitary group that dominates Praça Seca, in the West Zone. The Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the logistical assistance provided by militiamen in several of the crimes committed by the group.
