The Corinthians board meets to define the replacement of Tiago Nunes

After fire Tiago Nunes last Friday, the board of Corinthians meets this Saturday to discuss names and define who should be the new coach of the team.

A Sports gazette found that, among the technicians available in the market, Sylvinho appears as the best qualified. It is not the first time that the former left-back has entered Timão’s sights. The club also sought him out in 2016, under the leadership of Roberto de Andrade, and also last year, before settling with Tiago Nunes to replace Fábio Carille.

After hanging up his boots, Sylvinho started his career as a technical assistant in 2011 and took several courses to become a coach. He worked at Cruzeiro, Sport and Náutico until returning to Timão in 2013. Then he went to Inter Milan, to work with Roberto Mancini, and later he accepted Tite’s invitation to compose the technical team of the Brazilian team. Last year he had his first opportunity as a coach at Lyon, but was fired after just 11 games, with three wins, four draws and four losses.

Another recently surveyed name is Dorival Júnior. The already experienced 58-year-old coach was fired from Athletico-PR three weeks ago. Successor of Tiago Nunes in Furacão, he left the Paraná club after 17 games, with nine wins, three draws and five losses. Curiously, in São Paulo football, Dorival has already managed Palmeiras, Santos and São Paulo, but he never played for Timão.

Despite some rejection from the fans, Rogério Ceni also appears as an option. The former goalkeeper’s strong connection with his rival São Paulo is a natural obstacle and adds to the fact that the coach has a contract and does a good job in Fortaleza. Still, it was President Andrés Sánchez himself, who left the door open, in an interview with Fox Sports last Sunday.

“(Hired) No problem at all. He will be one of the best coaches in Brazil. He is a great person, he is no longer an athlete. He always respected Corinthians, never offended or mocked, as some have already done. There would be no problem hiring him, no ”, said Andrés.

The Corinthians president prefers to hire Brazilian coaches, but the possibility of bringing in a foreigner is not ruled out. The name of Miguel Ángle Ramirez stands out, who does a promising job at Independiente Del Valle. The 35-year-old Spaniard, however, would have little time to adjust to Brazilian soccer, with ongoing competitions and matches in sequence.

As long as the board does not hire a permanent replacement, whoever assumes the position on an interim basis is Dyego coelho, coach of the U-20 team. It will be the second time that the former player will have the opportunity in the main team. In 2019, after the dismissal of Fábio Carille, he took over the team in the last eight rounds of the Brazilian Championship and managed to qualify the team for the preliminary round of the Libertadores.
