RIO – With the counting of 99.5% of the polls throughout the country, the map of the Brazilian parties indicates that the center titles continue to predominate in the leadership of the Executive in all Brazil. However, the balance of forces changes radically over the next four years. The MDB remains the largest party in the country, with less force than before, while the DEM, PSD, PP and Republicans advance in this electorate, the traditional parties, with the PT and PSDB, suffer bitter losses.
The electoral portrait indicates that the anti-political radical speeches, one of the main signs of the 2018 elections, did not have a relevant force in the country in 2020. The hysteria that filled the successful candidates two years ago has now eclipsed – the changes in the partisan game they have involved more the reorganization of traditional political actors than the emergence of outsiders.
The numbers should change until the final consolidation of the result. However, they already show that, despite being predominant in the country, the BMD lost space and strength in four years, mainly in the interior of the country. So far, the party will control 750 city councils in the country, less than the 1,049 politicians in the executive branch in 2016, 28.5% less.

Displaced from command of the public machine in Brasilia, the party lost prominence to legends closer to power, but it remains influential throughout the country, with candidates competing in seven of the 18 capitals with a second round.
The biggest leaps were the hard core of Centrão, President Bolsonaro’s base of support in Congress, such as the PP, the PSD and the Republicans.
Growth was already expected, since these subtitles had already presented an increase in the number of affiliates for this election. They have also been the target of significant party migrations in the last four years. That is, they accumulate greater capillarity from now on.

Among progressives, the 648 mayors elected to date placed the party in a comfortable growth position of 53% compared to 2016. More than the advance, the title managed to reverse the downward trend in the number of city councils won.
Since 2000, when it conquered 620 cities, the party had been falling in number of mayors. Four years ago, there were 498.

The PSD, led by former minister Gilberto Kassab, will command 636 cities, 96 more than in 2016. The main one is Belo Horizonte, where Mayor Alexandre Kalil won in the first round.
President Rodrigo Maia’s party, the DEM, has also advanced its base of influence throughout the country. Until now, he will be in command of 440 municipalities, 60% more than four years ago, when he won 272. In addition to the interior, the DEM grew over the electorate in the big cities.
Democrats will head important municipalities such as Curitiba, Florianópolis and Salvador and Campo Grande. And he still has a chance to win in important centers like Rio de Janeiro, where Eduardo Paes runs to the round of 16 against Marcelo Crivella (Republicans).
Republicans, the party of President Jair Bolsonaro’s sons (no party), shows significant growth in influence. To date, it will control 216 cities, practically double what it achieved in 2016 (106).
PT and PSDB in decline
In an attempt to regain the 2016 result, the PT has won fewer prefectures so far than it did four years ago. To date, 178 members of the PT are elected in the municipalities, 79 fewer than in the past, when they won 257.

Despite the negative scenario, the party may end with a better balance than in the last elections. The caption has 15 candidates qualified for the runoff in the largest cities, which can increase your influence on voters.
The toucans, in turn, chose 525 this Sunday. They are 280 fewer than those registered four years ago, when he commanded 805 cities. Like the PT, toucans can conquer major cities and reduce the impact of damage to small cities.
The PSDB today has 14 candidates with the possibility of election on the 29th. In addition, it has conquered nine major cities, such as the capitals Palmas (TO) and Natal (RN), for example.

The biggest disappointment was with the PSL result. With most of the party fund, former president legend Jair Bolsonaro elected just 85 mayors in the entire country. None within cities with more than 200,000 voters in the country.
The match may reduce the negative result on the 29th, when it will play the second round in Sorocaba and Praia Grande, both in São Paulo.
