A crowd was dispersed by the Military Police in Bertioga, on the São Paulo coast, after invading a beach that was closed, causing agglomeration. The action of the PM to remove the bathers took place on the morning of this Friday (1), when access to the sand strip was still prohibited.

The moment when the agents remove the bathers was recorded by neighbors in videos that began to circulate on social networks (see excerpt from one of them above).

The images show hundreds of people on the strip of sand, and the moment when PM teams approach and begin to disperse the crowd, with the use of ‘moral explosives and tear gas’, according to the corporation.

According to the police, the action took place at 5:30 am, in the Riviera de São Lourenço, in Module 6. The PM explains that about 20 policemen were called to disperse the crowd.

The city government determined that the beaches would be closed from 7 pm on December 31 to 7 am on January 1. The block included the sand strip, gardens, and boardwalks.

The agglomeration, according to witnesses, occurred throughout the night. According to the corporation, some people cursed and threw bottles at the teams, but there were no injuries.

Bertioga is reinforced by 195 military police officers during Operation Summer, which began on December 22 and continues until February 17, 2021.

The workforce, which is 30% higher than last year, aims to reinforce security during this season, when the city receives a greater number of visitors. Due to the pandemic, police officers are instructed to guide and monitor people on the street, ensure compliance with the rules of social distance and the use of a mask and avoid crowds.
