THE leilo of the building that housed the Hotel Othon Palace, in downtown Belo Horizonte, ended without buyers this Tuesday afternoon (6). The minimum bid value was R $ 30 million, in accordance with the decision of the 5th Business Court of Rio de Janeiro. The entire procedure was done online and took less than 40 minutes.
In addition, the bidder must pay special attention to the overturning of the building, since it is protected by the Deliberative Council of the Cultural Heritage of the Municipality of Belo Horizonte (CDPCM-BH). I mean, anyone altered on the facade of the company, the project would have to be sent for analysis and approval by the Directorate of Cultural Heritage.
Present at the virtual auction, the lawyer for the Othon chain said that there will not be a second round of offers, since the process this afternoon was only one of the alternatives for the group – which is in the process of judicial recovery – to raise funds with the sale of the property.
Historical
When it opened in 1978, in an imposing 25-story building, on Afonso Pena Avenue, between Tupis and Bahía streets, in front of the Municipal Park, the BH Othon Palace had almost 300 rooms, and for some years it was the only one hotel in Lux from the city.
When closing the doors, in 2018, after 40 years of operation, it presented a prejudice accumulated of R $ 40 million. The total liability – mainly in taxes – totaled R $ 527.1 million.
170 employees were laid off, in addition to the impact caused in more than 64 areas of the economy driven by the hospitality.
