President Jair Bolsonaro appointed the judge of the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region Kassio Nunes Marques to a position in the Federal Supreme Court. The nomination was published in the Official Gazette this Friday (10/2), but it had already been advanced by the president the day before through social networks.
The nomination was presented to the Senate. To be nominated, his name must be approved in plenary session, by an absolute majority of senators.
Marques has a low profile. His peers consider that he has technical density and has shown courage in firm decisions, which stand out for their solid legal basis.
In an interview with Federal Justice Yearbook In 2019, other trademarks of the judge stood out: productivity, making more than 600 decisions per day; and the defense of the implementation of new management and computerization techniques.
If Marques is confirmed in the Senate, he will be the first member of the Republican history of the Supreme Court to graduate from the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI), and the sixth of Piauí origin.
Early retirement
Marques was nominated for the vacancy of Dean Celso de Mello, who anticipated his retirement for the 13th of this month. The decree that grants early retirement was also published in the Official Gazette this Friday.
Celso de Mello would have to retire on November 1, when he turns 75. “Strict – and supervening – medical reasons made it necessary, more than merely advisable, that I anticipate my retirement, which I formally requested on the 22nd,” the dean told the spells.
