The Minister of Health, Nelson Teich, declared today that Brazil is in negotiations to join a group that will carry out tests for the first vaccine against the new coronavirus.

“We are working to integrate a group that will test the first vaccine for covid-19. We are interacting to be part of this group. This is important for Brazil,” Teich said during the folder’s press conference, which was held daily, to publicize updates on the situation of covid-19 in the country.

There is no cure or even vaccine for covid-19 confirmed so far by the WHO (World Health Organization). Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency), responsible for regulating medications in the country, also says that at the moment there is no approved medication for the disease.

Teich added that the ministry does not prohibit the use of any proven coronavirus medication. The holder of the folder explained that there is a difference between not recommending a medication and restricting its use.

“The Ministry of Health does not prohibit the use of drugs that have been proven to be greedy,” he said.

Last week, the minister had already stated that the country was negotiating quotas for vaccines for the disease that have not yet been produced. The minister said he tried to anticipate the possibility of more effective treatment against covid-19 and ensure that Brazil is not in high global demand.
