Corinthians remains unconvincing in the Brazilian Championship. On Saturday night, Alvinegra’s team once again had a discreet performance and was only in the goalless draw with Red Bull Bragantino, in Bragança Paulista, for the 13th day of the national competition.
After a very listless first half, Timão even improved in the final stage, but he still struggled to create clear chances and bring danger to the home team. Thus, Corinthians started the third consecutive game without brandishing the nets (and the second without suffering).
With the result, Corinthians reached 14 points and moved up to 13th place in Brasileirão – so far, there are three wins, five draws and five losses.
Next appointment
- Corinthians will enter the field again next Wednesday, at 7pm, against Santos, in Neo Química Arena, for the 14th day of the Brasileirão.
From Cássio to Jô: Corinthians’ squad
Dyego Coelho promoted two substitutions among the starting lineups. After serving the penalty in the last round, right-back Fagner took the place of Michel Macedo, while defensive midfielder Gabriel took the place of the young Roni.
With that, Corinthians took the field with Cassio; Fagner, Gil, Danilo Avelar and Lucas Piton; Gabriel and Victor Cantillo; Otero, Luan and Léo Natel; Jo.
Red Bull Bragantino, meanwhile, started the match with Júlio Cesar, Aderlan, Léo Ortiz, Ligger, Edimar, Ryller, Raúl, Lucas Evangelista, Artur, Tubarão and Alerrandro.
How was the game
First time
Corinthians maintained the level of the last matches and made a first half well below expectations in Bragança Paulista. The owners of the house were in little danger, but neither was Dyego Coelho’s team demanding it.
To get an idea, the first clear chance to score came only in the 26th minute, when striker Artur took possession at the entrance of the penalty area and, with plenty of space, hit hard against Cássio’s goal.
The Corinthians goalkeeper, however, stretched out and avoided the first goal of the match. After this play, Bragantino reduced the intensity and saw Timão (at least) keep the ball and improve slightly.
The first goal for the Alvinegro team came after 38 minutes. Striker Léo Natel, on the left, took a long shot and forced Júlio Cesar to make a great save and send it to the corner.
Little happened after that play and the first half ended with a scoreless draw.
Second time
Despite a poor performance in the final stage, Coelho made no changes during the break and Corinthians returned to the second half with the same formation that started the match.
In less than a minute, in the first attack of the last stage, Otero took the left and risked from afar. However, Júlio Cesar caught the ball with some calm. It was the second white final in all the games.
Three minutes later, Timão came out playing badly, Tubarão recovered and played for Arthur on the right. The rival striker stepped in and kicked instead, sending the ball close to Cássio’s right post.
In the next attack, Bragantino took advantage of another ball error by Corinthians and, with Alerrandro, was in great danger. The opposite shot was over the goal of Cássio. Léo Natel tried to give the answer in the sequence, but he sent it, away from the rival goal.
At 11, after another confusion in the Corinthians defense field, with Léo Natel and Gil, the home team almost opened the scoring with Léo Ortiz. The intensity of the teams decreased after this move.
With that, Coelho promoted three substitutions at Corinthians: Boselli, Cazares and Gustavo Mantuan entered the places of Jô, Luan and Otero.
On his first move, Mantuan made a good move down the middle and rolled towards Natel, who sent a bomb off the net. At 32 minutes, Ramiro and Gustavo Mosquito took the place of Gabriel and Léo Natel, respectively.
Five minutes later, Cazares scored with Mantuan in the attack field. The Alvinegro offensive midfielder intervened and took advantage of the opportunity, but Júlio Cesar returned to defend with ease.
Little happened after this play and the match ended with a goalless draw in São Paulo.
