Carrefour police Adriana Alves Dutra, one of six people charged in the death of black client João Alberto Silveira Freitas, said she needed to be “hidden by the media” in a conversation with a colleague hours after the crime. She was arrested five days after the murder, when she was asked to give a new statement, since the police did not find her at her home.
At the time of his arrest, he was handed his cell phone and began to be analyzed. Two messages came to the attention of the police: one sent at 4:38 p.m. and the other at 10:57 p.m. on November 20. The two were sent to two different contacts, but with the same name: Paulo.
“Nor do I know Paulo, the lawyer’s advice is that I stay low, hidden for the moment, because of the media, do you understand me? Because everything is going very badly for me.”
Adriana’s first message
“The lawyer’s advice is to stay totally out of sight and try to protect the people who are connected to me. So don’t expose yourself because it will be bad, you understand?”
Second message from Adriana
The dialogues are included in the investigation report sent today to the Justice for the conclusion of the investigation. In addition to Adriana, the former temporary military police officer Giovane Gaspar da Silva and the security guard Magno Braz Borges were already in prison since the crime. Adriana is temporarily in prison and has been asked to convert to pretrial detention.
Today, the Police have requested the accusation and arrest of three more employees for triple homicide for unpleasant motives, asphyxia and use of resources that made the defense impossible. Among them is the security guard who was caught on video telling João Alberto “not to make a scene” while he was detained, as well as two employees with less involvement in the case.
For the police, there was no crime of racial harm, but Beto, as the black client was known, was the victim of “structural racism”, cited as an unpleasant motive in the rankings.

According to his wife, Milena Borges Alves, 43, the couple went to the supermarket to buy ingredients for a bread pudding and to buy vegetables. He says they stayed a few minutes in Carrefour and that Beto took the lead towards the parking lot. Upon arriving at the scene, Milena found her husband struggling on the floor. He even asked for help, but his wife was unable to reach him.
Security camera footage shows Beto’s circulation in the cashier area and the robberies in the parking lot. The recording shows Beto throwing a punch at the temporary PM, followed by kicks, kicks and punches from the security guard and the temporary PM.
Most of the images show the security guard’s bent leg immobilization on Beto’s back. Samu was called, but Beto did not resist the attacks.
