The candidate for mayor of Rio Suêd Haidar (PMB) e Jessica Natalino, who is running for vice mayor for the same ticket and is the daughter of former deputy Natalino Guimarães, convicted of leading a militia in the Western Zone, were the target of search warrants and apprehended by the Federal Police on Thursday (12).

The campaign committees of the two candidates were searched.

The superintendent explained that the investigation was based on financial intelligence reports (see more details below).

“That is the great difference with the operation that was unleashed today. The investigation began through an atypical financial movement. This movement was the first thread of the skein, and from there began to investigate the possibility of connection with the crime electoral, “he said.

“It is not the first time that the federal police have acted against this group. In 2008, there were Operation Free Vote; in 2012, again; and now in 2020 ”, recalled the superintendent. “The message has to be very clear: the security agencies are attentive to the electoral corrals.”

Natalino and Jerominho financial operations

Convicted of leading militia gangs and named founders of the League of Justice, Brothers Natalino and Jerominho Guimarães they are also action targets. There were no arrest warrants.

According to investigations, Jerominho and Natalino’s financial movement is beyond declared capacity and they would be targeting legislative and executive positions, in the 2020 elections, to regain power in the West Zone.

Brothers they are not candidates. Carmen Gloria Guinancio Guimaraes Teixeira, a Carminha JerominhoJerominho’s daughter, is running for a seat on the Rio City Council for the Brazilian Women’s Party (PMB).

Twelve orders The search and seizure cases were dispatched by the 16th Electoral Zone. The justice did not issue arrest warrants because the electoral law restricts arrests in the week of the election; only those caught in the act are arrested.

The operation mobilized 85 federal police officers, who came to look for evidence in the homes of the suspects, in campaign committees and in companies linked to those involved.
