Coronavirus particles can be found in the air in places frequented by infected people. This is what shows an investigation published on Monday (4/27) in the scientific journal Nature. Scientists at Wuhan University, the epicenter of the disease in China, analyzed air samples collected at two hospitals that treat patients with Covid-19.
The team found elevated levels of coronavirus in places like a small bathroom used by patients and staff locker rooms. In the staff rooms, after having been thoroughly cleaned, and in the well-ventilated rooms, nothing was found. According to scientists, this suggests that the virus can travel through the air. Research does not respond if these found particles are infectious, but scientists believe they have the potential for transmission.
Other studies
Other research has already shown similar results. Until now, the only proven way to transmit the coronavirus is essentially through the airway and physical contact.
The World Health Organization, however, says there is insufficient evidence to suggest that Covid-19 is airborne.
