The students of the São Paulo state school system may end up failing if they do not comply with most of the activities that were transmitted to them during the quarantine, the State Secretary of Education, Rossieli Soares, declared today.

On a visit to a school that resumed part of the face-to-face activities in the east of the São Paulo capital, he stated that “retention is possible.”

At a press conference, the secretary stated that “if the student does not submit any activity, nothing, the course may be lost.”

TO TwitterHe said that the evaluation will be at the level of the teaching unit. “The evaluation will be done by the school. Each unit will evaluate whether the minimum required activities have been carried out and will take into account the reasons for non-delivery.”

Rossiele said, however, that the schools will offer “recovery at all times.”

“It’s different from a normal year,” said the secretary, who warned of the possibility of disapproval despite the unification of the 2020 and 2021 school years.

“We are going to work the year 2020 and 2021 as a cycle, as if it were one, mainly for students who have already delivered their activities,” he said.

“The approval and disapproval of next year will take into account the eight bimonthly [quatro de cada ano], but if the student did not deliver enough in 2020, he can be retained, “he said.

Reopening

After more than six months closed due to the new coronavirus pandemic, the first public schools in the city of São Paulo began today to resume face-to-face activities.

At the moment, state units can only develop extracurricular activities, such as language courses, sports activities, music, school reinforcement and reception.

Among the rules to follow, the most important is that they can only receive 20% of the students enrolled each day, regardless of the teaching stage.

About 200,000 students in the state are expected to return to classes starting today, 50,000 in the capital.

According to the secretary, 219 cities authorized activities in 900 public schools, 304 in the capital. In total, the State Department of Education maintains 5,100 teaching units.
