Faculty decrees mourning and suspends activities until Monday
In a note, the Dom André Arcoverde Foundation (FAA) assures that it has experienced a tragic and absurd case of violence against women on its campus.
Read the full note:
“It is with great regret to report the death of our graduate student, Mayara Pereira de Oliveira Fernandes.
Today (11/27), we are living a tragic and absurd case of femicide on our campus. A gunman took hostage, assaulted and shot a student inside the Foundation parking lot.
An unexpected event in a city as peaceful as Valença, but which unfortunately reflects a national scene of violence against women.
Living in this situation is disgusting and extremely sad. We feel powerless to witness, even with immediate police action on the scene, a tragic outcome.
The victim was taken to the hospital by the Samu ambulance, but could not resist. The murderer was transferred to the 91st Civil Police Station.
We are all very moved and united in thought by the Mayara family.
We continue to collaborate with the authorities in the development of the situation and at the family’s disposal for support at this time of pain. “
