Today’s earthquake occurs less than a month after the 10th anniversary of the great earthquake followed by a tsunami in Fukushima on March 11. 2011 with a magnitude of 9.1. The earthquake left 15,800 dead and 2,000 missing. It brought a lot of destruction from a large tsunami and caused a nuclear accident at the Fukushima plant.
Country prepared
Japan is one of the most seismically active regions on the planet and is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. The country, therefore, is used to earthquakes and some of enormous intensity. Due to the risks, the building code is very strict and the civil defense system is one of the most prepared on the planet with recurrent training of the population on how to react to situations of natural disasters such as typhoons, tsunamis and earthquakes.
