São Paulo is in the semifinal of the Copa do Brasil. In a duel tonight (18), in Morumbi, the Tricolor of São Paulo defeated Flamengo again and, in the next phase, they will face Grêmio, who eliminated Cuiabá. The 3-0 victory over Rubro-Negro came with two goals from Luciano, who became the name of the match, and Pablo, who gave the final numbers to the match.
Fernando Diniz’s team had already won the first meeting between the teams, last week, in Maracanã. With two goals from Brennero, he triumphed 2-1, in a confrontation that was marked by the failure of the young goalkeeper Hugo.
The teams return to the field this weekend, for the Brazilian Championship. São Paulo receives Vasco, while Fla will have Coritiba at the helm.
Luciano shines
Striker Luciano became São Paulo’s hero in the match by scoring two goals and sealing the classification. After a first half at half time, it took him a few minutes to show his scent and make a difference for Diniz’s team.
Vitinho goes bad
Vitinho had a night that, perhaps, is forgotten. The 11 jersey did not perform as expected in the first half. In the final stage, when he had a chance to get Fla “back in the game,” he isolated a penalty by throwing a bucket of cold water into the crowd.
Fla starts well, but is knocked out in the second half
Faced with the need to seek victory to return to the fight, Flamengo began to score at the top and dictate the rhythm of the match. Against a São Paulo that had difficulties to get out of the game, Fla took the first half, although he did not really threaten Volpi. In the final stage, the team returned to Everton Ribeiro, but the hosts threw a bucket of cold water at the rival from the start. With the scoreboard open, the hosts played intelligently and used the spaces left by Fla to guarantee the place. Rubro-negro still had the chance to decrease with Vitinho, but the number 11 isolated the penalty.
São Paulo “changes its face”
After a first half in which he ended up more cornered and saw Flamengo have more possession of the ball, São Paulo returned to the second half in an overwhelming way and, in a few minutes, built an advantage that left the duel quite comfortable. Then he managed the score well and kept a good strategy, defending himself well and waiting for the opponent’s mistakes.
Maintenance x changes
While coach Fernando Diniz sent São Paulo to the field without news of the first leg, Rogério Ceni had to mount a Flamengo full of embezzlements.
On the side of São Paulo Tricolor, Juanfran remained on the right side and Luan returned to midfield. Rubro-Negro, meanwhile, could not count on Rodrigo Caio, Filipe Luis, Thiago Maia, Diego, Gabigol and Pedro, injured. Isla, who was with the Chilean team and played yesterday (17), in the tie, was also out. Everton Ribeiro, who was part of the Brazilian team, started on the bench.
The game
Went up
Needing the result, Flamengo took the initiative at the start of the match, pressing the ball and pushing the opposing team. Speed also appeared in this strategy. Meanwhile, São Paulo took another stance in anticipation of the rival.
Not worth it
Little by little, the tricolor of São Paulo found more spaces for offensive escapes. In one of these advances, Luciano managed to swing to the net after a cross from Reinaldo, but the defender was in an irregular position and the goal was disallowed.
With possession but with mistakes
The Rio team managed to have the ball and a presence on the offensive field, but they found themselves lacking space and whim to finish off the plays. Michael and Vitinho, who completed the offensive stretch with Bruno Henrique, are shown below.
Brenner upset
Author of both goals in the first leg, Brenner was the player who brought the most concern to Flamengo’s defensive sector before the break. On one of the occasions, he took advantage of the opponent’s failure and kicked for the defense of Diego Alves. In an attempt soon after, Thuler made a providential cut.
Traveled and played
After defending the Brazilian team against Uruguay, through the qualifiers, last Tuesday, Everton Ribeiro entered the field for Flamengo yesterday (18). The player replaced Michael.
Luciano opens the scoreboard
In the first minute of the final stage, the São Paulo fans celebrated. Daniel Alves found Luciano in the middle of Fla’s defense and the forward played to open the scoring. The referee even annulled the goal by pointing out Luciano’s impediment, but after analyzing the VAR, the goal was validated.
The again
Rogério Ceni’s men were still looking for a draw, but the home team reached the goal. And again with Luciano. On this occasion, the forward took advantage of a Reinaldo cross from the left and, with his head, extended the advantage.
Vitinho isolates grief
After the second goal, Rubro-Negro pressed. Gerson, on a low shot, passed the ball near the post. Soon after, on a high ball in the area, Aaron headed in and the ball caught Brenner’s right hand. Wilton Pereira Sampaio was called to VAR and scored the penalty. In the collection, however, Vitinho commanded over the goal.
Rogério sends the team forward; São Paulo “waiting”
After the wasted opportunity, coach Rogério threw Flamengo forward. He took out defender Thuler and put Pepê in the middle, retiring Aaron The team even had volume, but could not have the same momentum. In advantage, São Paulo began to be more cautious and play exploring the opponent’s mistakes.
Missed opportunities
Something like this based on “all or nothing”, Gávea’s team even created opportunities, but had difficulty balancing the network. Bruno Henrique and Lincoln were some of the players who failed in their attempts.
End of story
In the final stretch of the game, Pablo took advantage of the ball badly removed from Arão, pedaled and hit under Diego Alves to make the third.
Nine goals in three games
With today’s victory, São Paulo has scored nine goals in the last three games with Flamengo. Defeat 4-1 in Maracanã to the Brazilian, still under the command of coach Domènec Torrent. Then, the victory by 2 to 1, also in Maracana, for the first match of the quarterfinals of the Brazilian Cup, and now, by 3 to 0 in the second leg.
Ceni still does not beat São Paulo
Rogério Ceni still hasn’t beaten São Paulo as a coach. Today’s game was the coach’s seventh against the former club. In his current career period, he had five losses and two draws. The duels prior to the two in the Copa do Brasil were all under the command of Fortaleza. At Brasileirão, there were three setbacks for the old club. In the Copa do Brasil, there were two games and two defeats, today last Wednesday.
