The government of the State of São Paulo will request authorization for the emergency use of CoronaVac, a vaccine against covid-19, this Thursday (7) to Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency). The announcement will be made during the government’s press conference to announce the reclassification of cities in the São Paulo Plan.

With the documentation and studies of the Sinovac Biotech laboratory (author of the vaccine) in hand, Anvisa will have ten days to authorize or not the application of the immunizer.

According to a source from the Coronavirus Contingency Center in São Paulo heard by TwitterIn the state’s view, there is no reason why the agency should not approve vaccination with the compound. “Even under political pressure it would not be possible. There is no reason to stop,” he said.

The objective of the state health committee is to obtain from Anvisa the complete release of CoronaVac before January 25, the day scheduled for the start of state vaccination. Governor João Doria (PSDB) has insisted on several occasions that the application will happen.

The organ will be asked to use both emergency and definitive immunization. The difference between the two processes is that the analysis of the vaccine data for the final application takes more time and would take a few months.

Efficacy data

CoronaVac’s effectiveness rate has not yet been released by the state government, but the health committee and the Butantan Institute, the body that manufactures most Brazilian vaccines, guarantee that the vaccine is effective, even if it does not reach 90% .

Due to a mess involving the government, Sinovac Biotech and other countries where the vaccine is being applied, the disclosure of this index has been postponed and should be delivered directly to Anvisa.

In an interview with GloboNews today, Health Secretary Jean Gorinchteyn said that there is still no definitive agreement with the Health Ministry for CoronaVac to be used by the federal government throughout Brazil.

Negotiations are open and the vaccine is planned in the PNI (National Immunization Program). But, even without an agreement with the federal ministry, Gorinchteyn stressed that vaccination in São Paulo will take place as of January 25, as predicted last year.
